The GM Oil Life System calculates when to change your engine oil and filter based on vehicle use. Anytime your oil is changed, reset the system so it can calculate when the next oil change is required. If a situation occurs where you change your oil prior to a CHNAGE ENGINE OIL message being turned on, reset the system.
After changing the engine oil, the system must be reset.
To reset the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message use one of the folloqing procedures.
Reset oil service light Chevrolet Impala, using the radio. From years: 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005.
- Turn the ignition to ACC or ON, with the radio off.
- Press and hold the TUNE DISP knob on the radio for at least five seconds until SETTINGS is displayed.
- Press the SEEK PSCAN up or down arrow to scroll through the main menu.
- Scroll until OIL LIFE appears on the display.
- Press the 1 PREV or 2 NEXT buttons to enter the submenu. Reset will be displayed.
- Press the TUNE DISP knob to reset. A chime will be heard to verify the new setting and DONE will be displayed for one second.
- Once the indicator has been reset, scroll until EXIT appears on the display.
- Press the TUNE DISP knob to exit programming. A chime will be heard to verify the exit.
- Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

- Turn the ignition to ON, with the engine off.
- Fully press and release the accelerator pedal slowly three times within five seconds. If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message flashes, the system is reset.
- However, if it stays on, it did not reset. Repeat the procedure.
- Turn the key to OFF.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the engine oil life system has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

Always reset the engine oil life to 100% after every oil change. It will not reset itself. To reset the Engine Oil Life System for Chevrolet impala, do the following:
- Display the OIL LIFE REMAINING on the DIC.
- Press and hold the SET/RESET button on the DIC for more than five seconds. The oil life will change to 100%.
If the CHANGE ENGINE OIL SOON message comes back on when you start your vehicle, the Engine Oil Life System has not reset. Repeat the procedure.

your information on how to reset change oil is no help the method I used was to turn the ign key on tap the gas peddle (3) three times and the system reset . 2011 chevy Impala v6 3500 please up date your information .

My 2008 Chevy Impala has a low oil light on dashboard not sure if it’s low pressure or low oil. But it also states shut car off immediately. Checked oil and dipstick registers full. Please help going crazy don’t want to mess up engine!
If the oil light is red do not start the car, if is yellow you can drive your car to the nearest service. I cant tell you what is the problem but must be checked by a mechanic.
