DIY, change the battery on your Porsche Carrera 996 made between year 1999 and 2004. You will need a socket wrench for this repair and about 15 minutes time. You can use a pair of protecting gloves while handling the battery, as it can be corrosive and dangerous.
At first, open the front hood of your car and remove the plastic cover of the battery (as shown in the next picture) by rotating its plastic screws.
Then, you will have to detach the negative terminal cable, first. We marked it in blue in the next picture, but you should look out for the “minus” symbol on your battery. Because both terminal cables are coloured in black, make sure you remove the positive cable, at the end. It is marked with a “plus” symbol and has a red plastic cover that you have to detach.
Then, using the socket wrench and if you have, an extension, you have to unscrew the bolt holding the battery (shown below).
Now you can replace the battery, but only after you make sure the new one looks the same. You should always check the compatibility of the battery before buying it. To finish the repair, just reverse the instructions above. Tighten the bolt that holds the battery in place, connect the positive cable first (do not forget about the red plastic cover/indicator) and then the negative one and you are done. You can clean the inside of the cable terminals before, using a piece of sandpaper or another abrasive tool.
