Do it yourself, replace the battery on your Ford Explorer if its fabricated in year 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. In order to make the repair, you need an appropriate socket wrench and about 10 minutes of your time. We also suggest you to wear protective gloves, as the battery can be corrosive. The process is easier if you follow the steps we show you next.
In the beginning you have to open the hood of your car. Choose the proper socket wrench, go to the battery and remove its negative cable, first. It is usually coloured in black (shown in blue in the next picture). You will also recognize it if you look for the “minus” symbol. Then, you have to remove the positive cable of the battery. It is, in most cases, coloured in red (as shown in the next image) and it is marked with the “plus” symbol.
Do not forget to remove the plastic covering the battery and in the final, unscrew the bolt of the battery holding mount (you can see the below picture). You may need an extension for your socket wrench to get it done.
At this point, you can change the battery. We always recommend you to check the compatibility of the battery before buying it. To finish the repair, just reverse the above process. Remember to clean the terminal cables using a piece of sandpaper or another abrasive tool. This will remove the corrosion and ensure good contact. In the end, connect the positive cable of the battery first and then the negative one and you are done.
