Do it yourself, remove the front door panel on the passenger’s side of your Ford Explorer Sport Trac, the model made between 2001 and 2005. The replacement process will require a small flat headed screwdriver, a 7 mm socket wrench, a door clip removal tool or a putty knife and about half an hour.
In the beginning, open the passenger’s door and, using a flat headed screwdriver wrapped in a rag, pry out the small plastic panels behind the door pull and the small door handle. At this point, you can also remove the window switch panel, as you can see in the picture below. After you detach this panel, don’t forget to unplug the two harnesses that power it up.
Next, you should remove the four 7 mm bolts that hold the door panel. Two of them are located behind the door pull and the other two on the bottom side of the door, as indicated in the image below. After you undo them, remove the door lock knob by simply twisting it counterclockwise.
This is the moment when you should work on the clips that hold the door panel. Use a putty knife or a door clip removal tool and insert it between the door panel and the door frame and pry out all the clips around the edges. When you do it, you can simply lift up and out, the front door panel. Now, to access the interior of the door, if you need to make some repairs, you will have to remove the speaker with its connector (6 mm wrench required) and pull the water shield off. Make the desired repairs and install everything back carefully, by reversing the whole process. This is all you need to do, if you plan to remove the passenger’s front door panel on your Ford Explorer Sport Trac, produced between the years 2001and 2005.
