How to change the tail light on Toyota Corolla 1993-1997

Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Toyota Corolla, the model produced in the years 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996 and 1997. You will require a 10 mm wrench or a socket with a ratchet and probably a flat blade screwdriver. The replacement is quite simple, but the whole procedure might take you about half an hour.

The repair process starts in your trunk, because you have to remove the insulation that covers the back of the tail light. You can do it by removing the plastic pin shown in the image below. You should be able to do it by hand or helped by the screwdriver. After you do it, you will have access to the electrical harness that powers the assembly. Push the white button seen in the image and release the harness first, then unplug it by hand.

Now, using a 10 mm wrench or a socket, you have to undo the three bolts that secure the assembly onto the body of the car. Actually, one of them is a nut, located inside the trunk and two of them are bolts and they are located outside, to the exterior, as seen in the next picture.

By doing that, you will be able to pull out the tail light and install a replacement. Service the bulbs if needed and then insert the new assembly into the body of the car, aligning it correctly, using its guiding pins. Secure the part with the bolts, plug back the harness and place back the insulation in the trunk. These are the steps you need to follow, if you plan the replace by yourself the tail light assembly on Toyota Corolla, the model made between 1993 and 1997.
