How to change the tail light on Toyota Camry 1997-1999

Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Toyota Camry, the model manufactured in the years 1997, 1998 and 1999. You can finish this repair in less than 20 minutes, using a 10 mm socket wrench and a Phillips screw driver.

First, you need to open the trunk of your car and look behind the tail light you wish to replace, for the three plastic Phillips headed screws marked in the picture below. They hold a plastic cover that you must remove, in order to get access to the tail light assembly.

After you remove the plastic cover, you will have to unplug the electrical harness that powers the assembly, marked with the red arrow in the next image. After that, remove the three 10 mm nuts marked with the blue circles, using the socket wrench.

After you do it, you can simply pull out the tail light assembly. Of course, if you just need to service the bulbs, you do not need to remove the entire assembly. You can do it very easily, by twisting the light bulbs’ sockets. But if you need to replace the tail light assembly, now you can install the new one. Align it into the body of the car, secure it with those three nuts and plug back the electrical connector. In the end, make sure the new assembly and bulbs work correctly and place back that trunk cover. This is all you need to do, if you wish to change the tail light on your Toyota Camry, made between the years 1997 and 1999.
