Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Saturn Ion, the Sedan model made between the years 2003 and 2007. In order to make this repair, you will need a T10 torx screwdriver and a new tail light assembly. The process is quite simple and you’ll probably be able to do it in less than 15 minutes.
In the beginning, you will have to lift the trunk door, to be able to access the three screws that hold the tail light. They should look like the ones marked with red circles in the image below. You can remove them pretty easily using a T10 torx screwdriver.
After you do it, you can just pull out the tail light assembly. Behind it, you will notice the main connector and the three wires powering the light bulbs, as you can see in the next picture. Now, if you need to service the bulbs or move them to the new assembly, you can do it by twisting their sockets counterclockwise. If not, just unplug the main connector and plug it back onto the new tail light.
Insert the new part into the body of the car, align it correctly to match the screw holes and secure it with the three screws. These are the steps you need to follow, if you wish to service the tail light assembly on your Saturn Ion Sedan, the model produced between 2003 and 2007.
