How to change the tail light assembly on Ford Taurus 2000-2003

Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Ford Taurus, produced between the years 2000 and 2003. In order to make this replacement you will require an 11 mm wrench or a socket of the same size and a new tail light from your favourite auto parts store. The repair is simple and can be done in less than 15 minutes.

In the beginning, you will have to open the trunk of the car and remove the thumb screw shown in the image below, that holds the insulation.

After you do it and you pull that trim panel aside, you will get access to the back of the tail light assembly, which is held by three 11 mm nuts, as seen in the picture below. You can remove them with an appropriate wrench and after that, you can detach the tail light. Before pulling out the assembly, make sure you disconnect the electrical harness marked with the blue arrow.

At this point, the tail light can be replaced with a new one. If you only look to service the light bulbs, you just have to twist their sockets counterclockwise and pull them out. After you make the desired replacements, install the new tail light into the body of the car, connect back its harness and secure it with the nuts. This is all you need to do, if you wish to replace by yourself the tail light assembly on Ford Taurus, made between the years 2000 and 2003.
