How to change the tail light assembly on Chevy Impala 2000-2005

Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Chevrolet Impala, produced in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. This repair doesn’t require tools, only about 10 minutes of your time. It can be very simple if you follow the next instructions.

First of all, you have to open the trunk of your car and look behind the tail light you wish to replace, for two plastic thumb screws (marked with red circles in the image below). These screws hold both the insulation in your trunk and the tail light assembly and you should be able to remove them without any problem.

After you do it, you can pull the insulation out a little bit, just enough to gain access to other two thumb screws, that once removed, will release the tail light (see picture below).

So, after you remove the four thumb screws, you can basically pull out the light. You will also have to unplug its electrical harness, the one seen below, in order to remove the entire assembly.

If needed, you can service the light bulbs at this time. You just have to rotate their sockets counterclockwise. After you finish all the repairs, install the assembly back on the car and secure it with the four screws. This is everything you need to do, if you wish to change the tail light assembly on your Chevrolet Impala, the model made between the years 2000 and 2005.
