Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Chevy Equinox, the model manufactured between the years 2005 and 2009. The tools you’ll need to do this repair are a flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver or a 10 mm socket wrench with a ratchet. The whole process will take you less than 15 minutes.
With the back door open, start by removing the two plastic covers seen in the image below, using a flat blade screwdriver. They hide the screws that secure the tail light assembly.
You can remove these screws using a big Phillips screwdriver or a 10 mm socket wrench, with a ratchet.
Once you do it, work your fingers between the assembly and the body of the car and pull out firmly, towards you. The tail light has two guiding pins inside, to the exterior of the lens, that hold it tight. After you detach the assembly, unplug the main harness behind it (see picture below) and remove it completely.
At this point you can service the light bulbs if needed, you can make repairs or you can install a new tail light. Connect it to the main electrical harness, insert it into the body of the car and secure it with the two screws. These are the steps you need to follow, if you plan to remove and reinstall the tail light assembly on your Chevy Equinox, the model made between the years 2005 and 2009.
