Do it yourself, change the spark plugs on your Honda Civic manufactured between the years 2005 and 2011. So, the repair process is basically the same on models produced in the years 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. For this repair, you will need new and compatible spark plugs, a 5/8 spark plug socket wrench with an extension and a 10 mm socket wrench. The repair will probably not take more than 20 minutes of your time.
In the beginning, open the hood of your car and unplug the negative cable from the battery. This way you will prevent errors on the computer, shortcuts or any type of electrical damage on the car. Then, locate the four ignition coils on the engine and remove their harnesses by pressing the safety tabs marked with red arrows in the next picture. After you do it, unscrew the 10 mm bolts that hold the ignition coils (coloured in blue in the next image). If you find it easier, you can remove the two bolts that hold the wiring cover above the coils (see the yellow arrows below).
Next, detach the ignition coils and, using the 5/8 spark plug socket wrench and an extension, remove the old spark plugs (see the picture below).
In the end, install the replacements. Insert the coils back into their sockets, connect the harnesses and tighten the 10 mm screws. Do not forget to plug the negative cable on the battery, as the final step. This is everything you need to know if you wish to change the spark plugs on your Honda Civic made between the years 2005-2011.
