DIY, change the rear door panel on your GMC Crew Cab, the model made between 1999 and 2002. You will require a 7 mm socket wrench and a flat blade screwdriver to make this replacement. Removing and reinstalling the panel might take you more than half an hour.
First of all, open the rear door of the car and start to remove the plastic elements on the panel. You can pry out the bezel around the small door handle, the power window switch and the lock button, seen in the image below. You can also remove the light reflector lens. All these can be done using the tip of a flat blade screwdriver. You might also consider using a rag around it, to protect the plastics on the door. Be careful, don’t forget to unplug the harnesses powering the power window switch and the light reflector.
After you deal with these things, you will have to remove the two 7 mm bolts that secure the door panel furthermore. One of them is located above the small door handle and the other one on the bottom, right corner, as you can see in the picture below.
After you remove these two bolts you can lift up the door panel and detach it from the body of the car. Reinstalling is about reversing the steps above. Just make sure you put back all the elements on the panel and that should be it. This is all you need to do, if you wish to remove the rear door panel on your GMC Crew Cab, produced between the years 1999 and 2002.
