DIY, change the rear bumper marker light on VW Passat 2001-2005

Do it yourself, change the rear bumper marker light on your Volkswagen Passat, made in the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. The replacement process for this part is very, very simple and can be done in the back of your garage, in less than 5 minutes. The only tool you’ll need is a small flat blade screwdriver.

Now, the replacement procedure for the rear side marker light is very similar to the one on the front bumper. You will just have to push the lens inside the bumper with your fingers. You will notice that only the side to the back of the car pushes in, as you can see in the picture below.

The next step at this point is to slide the assembly a little bit inside the bumper, until it comes out of its clips located on the other side (to the interior of the car). You can try to do that by hand, but in most of the cases, you will require a small flat blade screwdriver, that you can insert as seen in the image below.

Now you can simply pull out the cable behind the assembly and detach the plastic lens completely. Replace the light bulb if necessary and then install the replacement.     You will have to reconnect the cable with the bulb to the new side marker light and insert the assembly into the front bumper with the side to the back of the car first. Push this side into the bumper and then clip the other side correctly to secure everything. This is all you need to do if you plan to remove and replace the rear bumper side marker light assembly on your Volkswagen Passat, the model produced between the years 2001 and 2005.
