How to change the interior door handle on Honda Civic 2001-2005

Do it yourself, change the interior door handle on your Honda Civic, the model produced in the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. This is a simple replacement that you can do in less than 15 minutes, if you follow the instructions below. You will only need flat blade and Phillips screwdrivers for the task.

You can start by prying out the plastic cover behind the door handle, using the tip of a small flat blade screwdriver. Insert it as you see in the image below and remove that cover.

Behind it, there are two Phillips screws, that secure the handle (see picture below). Loosen them with an appropriate screwdriver and pull out the handle from the door panel.

At this point, you will have to disconnect the two cables behind the handle, in order to separate it from the door. There is the metal rod first, that can be removed after you move away its plastic securing tab and the harness that powers the door lock button, as seen in the images below.

Now you can install the replacement, very easily. Reconnect the door lock harness to the new handle, reinstall the metal rod, then secure the handle with the screws and place back the small cover to hide them. This is all you have to do, if you need to remove and replace the inside door handle on your Honda Civic, the model manufactured between the years 2001 and 2005.
