How to change the ignition coils on Seat Cordoba 2004-2005

DIY, change the ignition coils on your Seat Cordoba or Ibiza made in the years 2004 and 2005. The replacement procedure may be similar on earlier or newer models as well. To do this repair you will require new ignition coils from your local parts store, a 10 mm socket wrench and a flat blade screwdriver. This is the kind of repair that you can do it by yourself in about 25 minutes, if you have to change all the four coils.

Begin the repair by opening the hood of your car and by disconnecting the negative cable from the battery. This way you will avoid unwanted electrical accidents, shortcuts or errors on the computer. Use the 10 mm socket wrench or a simple wrench of the same size and unscrew the nut holding the cable. After that you will have to detach the engine cover. You can do it by pulling up from the extremities, as shown below. Be careful because on the right side of the engine cover there is a small hose. Do not forget to unplug it before removing the cover.

After detaching the engine cover you will get access to the ignition coils that you have to replace. You will notice that they are not held by any bolt or other fastener. There are some plastic clamps, but they hold the cables, the wiring. Using the flat blade screwdriver, loosen up some of the clamps if needed and then pry out slowly the ignition coils (see the next picture).

Now, to be able to remove the coils you just have to disconnect their harnesses. You can remove the cables by pressing their safety tabs with your fingers or using a flat blade screwdriver where is needed (see the image below). At this point, if you want to replace the spark plugs, you can do it very easily using a spark plug socket wrench.

You can now install the replacements. Insert the coils back into their holes and connect their harnesses. Reinstall the engine cover and remember about the small hose on the right. At the end, reconnect the negative cable on the battery and you are done. This is all you have to do in order to change the ignition coils on your Seat Cordoba or Ibiza made in the years 2004 and 2005. You can watch the tutorial below for a detailed presentation.
