Do it yourself, change the ignition coils on your Dodge Intrepid, manufactured between the years 1998 and 2004, the model equipped with the 2.7L V6 engine. The procedure should be similar for the models with the 2.5L engine as well. The only tool needed is an 8 mm socket wrench, with a ratchet and an extension. The repair might take you more than half an hour, for all the six coils.
The repair process starts after you open the hood and locate the six coils, above the engine. There are three on each side of the engine, as you can see in the image below.
In order to remove and replace them, you will have to disconnect the electrical harness on each one and undo the two 8 mm bolts that secure them, as you can see in the next picture. After that, you just have to pull them out of their sockets and replace them with new ones.
If you also wish to service the spark plugs, you can do it very easily with a spark plug wrench. After you make the replacements, secure each coil on the engine with those bolts and reconnect the electrical wires for every one of them. This is all you need to do if you wish to remove and replace the ignition coils on your Dodge Intrepid, the model made between 1998 and 2004.
