How to change the headlight on Pontiac Grand AM 1999-2006

Do it yourself, replace the headlight assembly on your Pontiac Grand AM, made between the years 1999 and 2006. You will require a flat blade screwdriver, pliers and a Phillips screwdriver to make this repair. It might take you more than half an hour to do it.

In the beginning, open the hood of your car and look above the headlight you need to replace, for two plastic clips as the ones indicated in the picture below. They hold a plastic cover that goes above all the front side of the car. These clips can be removed quite easily using the flat headed screwdriver. You have to pry out the middle pin first and then they come out.

After you do it, lift up the cover and remove the two metal tabs that hold the headlight assembly, as seen in the image below. You should be able to do it using the pliers. Shake them back and forth a little bit, until they come out.

At this point, you can remove the headlight assembly and behind it, unplug the four harnesses and light bulbs indicated below, to release the housing. You might need to release the main cable from a plastic retainer. Do it and detach the headlight completely.

Service the bulbs if needed and then work a little bit on the new headlight assembly. It should have, as the old one, three adjusters that you have to preliminary set to fit into their place, on the car’s body. So adjust them properly using a Phillips screwdriver, then plug the harnesses on the new assembly and install it on the car. Secure everything with the two metal tabs and in the end, place the plastic cover back. These are the steps you need to follow, if you wish to change the headlight assembly on your Pontiac Grand AM, produced between the years 1999 and 2006.
