DIY, change the headlight assembly on your Toyota Tundra, the model made in the years 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004. You will need a flat blade screwdriver, a 10 mm socket wrench and a Phillips screwdriver to make this replacement. The whole process won’t take you more than 20 minutes.
The first step of the repair is about removing the parking light assembly. This can be done with a Phillips screwdriver and a flat blade screwdriver, used on the plastic retaining clip shown in the image below. Use the Phillips screwdriver on the tip of the clip and then pry up its center with the flat blade. After that you can just pull out the assembly and unplug the electrical harness behind it, that powers up the light bulb.
The next step is to remove the main headlight lens. You can do it using the 10 mm socket wrench, on the four retainers that secure the assembly. You have a bolt on the top side, to the exterior of the car and three nuts, all shown in the picture below.
After you remove them, pull up and out the headlight and disconnect the electrical harness behind it. This can be done easily, by hand. If you need to service the light bulb, you don’t need to remove the entire assembly, because it can be accessed from behind. Reinstalling the whole thing is about reversing the steps shown above. Reconnect the electrical harness on the bulb of the main headlight, insert it in its place and secure it with the four retainers, then move to the parking light and that’s it. These are the steps you need to follow, if you wish to remove and replace the headlight assembly on your Toyota Tundra, the car produced between the years 2000 and 2004.
