Do it yourself, change the headlight assembly on your Toyota Camry made in the year 1998. The procedure should be the same on models made from 1997 to 1999. For this particular repair you will need a flat blade screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver, a 10 mm socket wrench and a new headlight. The repair process won’t take you more than 30 minutes, if you do not encounter problems like rusty or damaged screws, clips that won’t come out, etc.
In the beginning, you have to remove the front bumper of your car. In order to do that, you should begin by removing the two 10 mm bolts on the top of the bumper, shown in the image below. In the middle, you will have to remove a plastic retainer with a Phillips head.
Then, get beneath the front bumper (you can use a jack stand for easier access) and remove the three 10 mm bolts shown in the picture below. Then repeat the process on the other side of the bumper.
Now, on the middle, you will have to remove the two plastic Phillips-headed retainers shown below, on the left picture. Then go to the wheels and remove the inner fender liners, in order to gain access to the two 10 mm bolts marked in the right picture (there is one on each side).
After you deal with all these retainers, you can pull out the front bumper. Then, go to the headlight and remove the three 10 mm bolts and the plastic retainer marked below with red arrows. The assembly won’t come out until you disconnect the two harnesses behind it, that power the bulbs.
Now, to finish the repair, install the new assembly and everything back in place. Just reverse the process above and in the end you will have changed the headlight assembly on your Toyota Camry made between 1997 and 1999.
