Do it yourself, change the glass of the left side mirror on your Vauxhall Astra Mk4. The tutorial below describes the replacement process of a mirror’s glass and it is similar on Astra models produced between the years 1998 and 2009. You can do the repair very easily with your bare hands, without any tools. We just recommend you to wear protective gloves when you remove the old glass or a flat blade screwdriver, in order to avoid unwanted accidents. The replacement can be done in no more than 5 minutes.
In the beginning you have to remove the old glass. Insert your fingers behind it and pull it out. If you find it difficult or the glass is broken, you can use a screwdriver and handle it carefully. If the glass is not broken and you need to keep it and take it out that way, you have to pry it very slowly and with patience, because applying too much force will damage or break the glass easily. After you detach it, you will see the two electrical wires used to heat the mirror, as in the next picture. If they are attached to the glass, unplug them.
At this moment you can simply install the replacement. Make sure you connect back the two wires. Place the glass on the alignment as below, then press on it and you are done.
These are the steps you need to follow if you wish to change the glass of the left side mirror on Vauxhall Astra Mk4, made between the years 1998 and 2009. You can watch the next tutorial for details about the repair.
