DIY, change the exterior door handle on Chevy Malibu 2004-2008

Do it yourself, change the exterior door handle on your Chevy Malibu, the model manufactured between the years 2004 and 2008. You may wanna do this replacement if your door handle brakes or you just wanna upgrade to chrome door handles. The procedure is simple and it requires a T25 torx driver and about 10 minutes.

First, you will have to open the door where the handle is located and remove the small rubber plug, marked with the red arrow in the picture below. This is actually a cover for a T25 torx screw located inside, kinda diagonally. Use a proper tool and remove that screw, too.

After that, go to the exterior of the door and remove the part of the handle for the key lock, the one seen in the image below. You can get it right out after you pull out the handle a little bit.

Now you just have to take out the handle itself. You have to close the handle (put it to the “door closed” position), grab it in your hand and slide it to the rear of the car, as seen in the picture below.

Now it is the time to install the replacement. Put the new handle back on its place and slide it to the front of the car, this time. With it opened, reinstall the key lock mechanism and secure everything with the torx screw. This is all you have to do, if you plan to remove and replace the exterior door handle on your Chevy Malibu, the model made between the years 2004 and 2008.
