How to change the door panel on Jeep Grand Cherokee 1999-2004

Do it yourself, change the front door panel on your Jeep Grand Cherokee, produced between 1999 and 2004. You will require a flat headed screwdriver, a Phillips screwdriver and a T25 torx driver. If you wish, you can also use a putty knife or a door panel clip tool.

You can start the repair by opening the front door of your car, on the driver’s side. On the right side of the door, behind the mirror, there is a small plastic cover that you must pry out. It will reveal a Phillips screw that you should remove. There is also a Phillips screw into the big door handle, as you can see in the picture below. The third screw that you must remove is located behind the small door handle. It is a torx and you will need a T25 torx driver.

After you get rid of the screws, you can wrap a rag around a flat headed screwdriver or a putty knife and start to pry out the door panel from its edges. It has plastic retaining clips all over its extremities. After you detach the door panel from these clips, pull it out towards you and unplug the two harnesses and two rods behind it, as shown in the next picture.

At this point you can replace the door panel or make the desired repairs and install it back. Make sure you finish the repairs by reversing the steps above. This is all you have to do, if you wish to remove and replace the front door panel on your Jeep Grand Cherokee, manufactured between the years 1999 and 2004.
