Do it yourself, change the outer door handle on your Chevy Equinox. This replacement is the same for models produced between the years 2005 and 2009. You may wanna do this because the door handle on the car is broken, or because you simply wish to replace it with a new one (a chrome one, for example). You will require a flat blade screwdriver and a T25 torx bit driver, to make this repair. Because the process is quite simple, you will probably be able to do it in less than 15 minutes.
First, open the door with the handle you wish to replace and start by removing the rubber plug seen in the picture below. You can do it using the tip of a flat headed screwdriver.
After you remove it, you will notice a T25 torx screw inside the door (see image below). Remove it with the appropriate screwdriver or tool.
Now, you will have to go to the exterior side of the door. As you probably know, the door handle is made from two plastic parts, as seen in the picture below. You will have to remove the small one first and you can do it simply, by hand. The main part will slide towards the rear of the car. So, pull it out firmly in that direction.
You should be able to install the replacements easily, too. Insert and secure the main part of the door handle first, then the small one. With the last one pressed, tighten that screw inside the door and cover it with the rubber plug. This is all you need to do, if you wish to remove and change the outer door handle on your Chevy Equinox, the model made between the years 2005 and 2009.
