How to change a broken door handle on Honda Accord 1998-2002

Do it yourself, change the broken door handle on your Honda Accord, the model made between the years 1998 and 2002. This is a very common and simple repair that is pretty much similar on all car doors. The tools you’ll need are a small flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver. The replacement won’t take you more than 5 minutes.

In the beginning, after you open the door, you will have to pry out a door-like plastic cover behind the small door handle. You can do it easily, using the tip of a flat headed screwdriver. Behind this cover you should find a Phillips screw, as seen in the image below.

After you remove that screw you can pull out and detach the handle. It should slide slowly to the interior of the car, allowing you to release it from the door panel. Behind it, you will have to remove a rod, a cable, secured by a clip (see picture below) and the electrical harness powering the lock switch.

At this point you can install a replacement or make repairs to the old handle. Then you can reinstall it, reversing the steps above. This is all you have to do, if you wish to change the broken door handle on your Honda Accord, produced between the years 1998 and 2002.
