To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change Ford Explorer 2006 [approximately 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days] perform the following:

  1. Enter SYSTEM CHECK to display “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL”. Picture below.
  2. Reset oil service light Ford Explorer, indicator.
  3. Press and hold the RESET control switch for more than 2 seconds. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed. Picture below.

Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days to another value, refer to the Oil Life Start Value selected from the SETUP MENU in this section.

  1. Select this function from the SETUP MENU for the current display mode.
  2. Press and hold the TRIP/RESET control switch to reset oil change.
  3. Press the TRIP/RESET control switch for the next SETUP MENU item or wait for more than 4 seconds to return to the INFO MENU.

Note: Oil Life Start Value of 100% equals 5,000 miles (8,000 km) and 180 days. Setting Oil Life Start Value to 60% sets the Oil Life Start Value to 3,000 miles (4,828 km) and 120 days.

  1. Enter SYSTEM CHECK to display “OIL XXX% RESET IF NEW”.
  2. Press SELECT/RESET control switch to display “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL”.
  3. Press and hold the SELECT/RESET control switch for more than 2 seconds. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL CHANGE SET TO 100%” is displayed.

Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 5,000 miles (8,000 km) or 180 days to another value, refer to the Oil Life Start Value selected from the SETUP MENU in this section.

  1. Select this function from the SETUP MENU for the current display mode.
  2. Press and hold the SELECT/RESET control switch to reset oil change.
  3. Press the SELECT/RESET control switch for the next SETUP MENU item or wait for more than 4 seconds to return to the INFO MENU.

To reset the oil monitoring system to 100% after each oil change Ford Explorer 2009, 2009, 2010 [approximately 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6 months] perform the following:

  • 1. Select “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL” from the SETUP MENU.
  • 2. Press and hold the SELECT/RESET control switch for more than 2 seconds. Oil life is set to 100% and “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed.

Note: To change oil life 100% miles value from 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6 months to another value, proceed to step 3.

  • 3. Once “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed, release, press and hold the SELECT/RESET control switch for more than 2 seconds to change the Oil Life Start Value. Each release, press and hold will reduce the value by 10 percent.
  • 4. After setting the Oil Life Start Value, press and release the SELECT/RESET control switch for the next SETUP MENU item or wait for more than 4 seconds to return to the INFO MENU.

Note: Oil Life Start Value of 100% equals 7,500 miles (12,070 km) or 6 months. For example, setting Oil Life Start Value to 60% sets the Oil Life Start Value to 3,000 miles (4,828 km) and 120 days.

  1. There’s nothing mentioning “oil” in the menu. I have a Ford Explorer XLT, 2009. Been through the menu with ignition on and off without engine running, there is a reset option “Press and hold to reset”, which I have done, but nothing ever mentions “OIL” anywhere. The “Oil Change Required” message is still popping up every time I turn it on. So annoying. Used an OBDII reader, no errors or reset available either.

    How to Reset 2006–2010 Ford Explorer Oil Change Light:

    Turn the ignition to run, one position before starting engine.
    Press the TRIP/RESET button to cycle to “SETUP MENU HOLD RESET”.
    Now press and hold the button for 2 seconds until “RESET FOR SYSTEM CHECK” is displayed, then release.
    Imediately press and hold button for 2 more seconds until “Oil 100% RESET IF NEW” is displayed, then release.
    Imediately press button once to display “HOLD RESET IF NEW OIL” and release.
    Imediately press and hold button for 2 seconds until “OIL LIFE SET TO 100%” is displayed.
    Turn key off and then start your car and it should be reset.
