Do it yourself, replace the air filter on Toyota 4Runner made between the years 1996 and 2002. This is the type of replacement that doesn’t require tools or too much mechanical knowledge. It will probably take you about 5 minutes, if you follow the next simple steps.
First of all, open the hood of your car and look behind the passenger’s headlight for the air box. It is a black plastic box, the place where the air filter is located. You will have to remove the two metal clamps that secure it, marked in the picture below with red arrows.
You can just use your bare hands for the metal clamps. If they are really stuck you can use a flat blade screwdriver or a pair of pliers. After you remove them, you will get access to the air filter, as shown in the next image.
You can now replace the air filter, but only after you make sure the replacement looks the same. Clean the air box if you find there dirt, leaves or any debris. To finish the repair, just reverse the instructions presented above. Place the air box cover back on the filter compartment, secure those two clamps and you are done. That is all you have to do, if you need to replace by yourself the air filter on Toyota 4Runner made between the years 1996 and 2002.
