Do it yourself, change the windshield washer pump on your Volkswagen Passat, the model produced between the years 2002 and 2005. This is a simple replacement that can be done in the back of your garage in less than half an hour. You will require a T25 torx driver and most probably a pan to catch the windshield fluid coming off from the system. You will start underneath the car, in front of the wheel on the driver’s side. The pump is located behind the front bumper. There is no need to remove the bumper or lift the car, but if you do it, the replacement process will be easier and more comfortable. Turn the wheels to the interior of the car and with a T25 torx driver, remove the three screws that hold the plastic cover seen in the picture below. After you do it, pull that cover away and you will get access to the washer pump, as you can see in the next image. Grab the pump and pull it up and out. Be careful when you do it, because all the liquid in the installation will come out. Use a pan to catch it and then dispose of it according to the environmental laws. You can also reuse it after the repair and fill the installation with it, if you choose so. After the moment you detach the pump, you can unplug its harness and the two small hoses that connect it to the system, as seen below. Replace the pump with a new one, make the required connections, install it into the reservoir and put back the plastic cover located in front of the wheel. These are the simple steps you need to follow, if you wish to replace the windshield washer pump on your Volkswagen Passat, the model made between 2002 and 2005.
