DIY, change the tail light assembly on your Toyota Corolla, the car produced between 1998 and 2002. You will require a flat blade screwdriver, a 10 mm wrench or a socket and about 15 minutes.
This repair will start in the trunk of your car. Here you will have to remove the plastic panel behind the tail light you need to replace. You can do it using a flat blade screwdriver, because you have to remove the two plugs shown in the image below.
After you do it, you can pull out the panel. By doing that, you will gain access to the back of the tail light assembly. Now you can service the light bulbs easily, if this is what you need to do. You just have to twist their sockets counterclockwise. But, if you wish to change the tail light completely, you will have to remove the three 10 mm nuts that secure it, as you can see in the picture below.
Then, you will be able to pull out the assembly. In order to remove it completely, you will have to unplug its main harness, that powers the bulbs. Do it, replace the old tail light with a new one, plug it back on that harness and install it into the body of the car. At the end, secure the assembly and reinstall that plastic panel behind it. These are the steps you need to follow, if you plan to replace by yourself the tail light assembly on Toyota Corolla, the model manufactured between the years 1998 and 2002.
