Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Lincoln Town Car, the model made between the years 1998 and 2002. This is a simple repair that can be done in less than 20 minutes using only an 11 mm socket wrench with a ratchet.
First of all, you will have to open the trunk and remove the insulation behind the tail light that needs repairs. You can do it very simply by twisting the plastic knob seen in the picture below, that holds that insulation.
After you pull it aside, you will gain access to the back of the tail light, where you have to undo three 11 mm nuts, as you can see in the next image. Remove them with an appropriate wrench and pull out the assembly. Be careful because behind it, you will find three electrical harnesses that power up the bulbs. You can twist the sockets of the light bulbs counterclockwise and release the tail light.
At this point, you can reinstall the replacement. Reconnect those harnesses and align the tail light into the body of the car. After you secure it with those nuts and place the trim in your trunk back, you should be ready to go. This is all you have to do in order to remove and replace the tail light assembly on Lincoln Town Car, the model produced between 1998 and 2002.
