Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your GMC Sonoma, the model produced between the years 1994 and 2004. The only tool you’ll need to make this replacement is a Phillips screwdriver. The whole process will probably take you less than 15 minutes.
First, open the tailgate of your car and start by removing the two screws seen in the image below. They secure the tail light onto the body of the car. You can remove them easily with a Phillips screwdriver.
After you remove those screws, you will be able to take out the tail light. It can be pulled right out, with your bare hands. Behind it, you will have access to the light bulbs, as you can see in the picture below. Service them if needed, or move them to the new tail light lens. They can be removed by twisting their sockets counterclockwise.
Now it is the moment to install the replacement assembly. Connect the light bulbs to the new part, insert it into the body of the car, align it properly on its guiding pins and screw holes and secure it with the two Phillips screws. This is all you need to know and do, if you wish to service the tail light assembly on a GMC Sonoma made between the years 1994 and 2004, by yourself.
