DIY, change the tail light assembly on your Dodge Caravan, the model produced between the years 1996 and 2000. You will require a flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver to make this replacement. The repair is quite simple, so you should be able to do it in less than 15 minutes.
You can start by opening the back door of the car. In order to release the tail light assembly from the body of the car, you will have to use a Phillips screwdriver on a couple of screws, like the ones seen in the picture below.
After you remove them, you will be able to pull out the assembly easily. Behind it, you will notice an electrical harness with a connector, that you have to unplug, in order to release the assembly (see image below). That connector has a small red securing tab, that you can pull aside with the tip of a flat blade screwdriver. This is also the right moment to service the light bulbs, if that is what you need. You can simply twist their sockets counterclockwise and replace them.
But only after you remove the assembly completely, you will be able to install the replacement. Reconnect the electrical harness, align and insert the new tail light into the body of the car (it has a guiding pin to the exterior side) and secure it with the two screws. These are the steps you need to follow, if you wish to remove and replace the tail light assembly on your Dodge Caravan, the model made between the years 1996 and 2000.
