Do it yourself, change the tail light assembly on your Toyota Tacoma, the model produced between the years 2001 and 2004. You will only require a Phillips screwdriver and no more that 15 minutes of your time.
You can start the repair by removing the four screws marked with blue circles in the picture below. They are Phillips screws, located inside the plastic of the tail light and they secure the assembly.
After you remove them, you will be able to take out the tail light. Once you detach it, behind it, you will find the main harness that powers the bulbs, as you can see in the image below. Disconnect it and remove the assembly completely.
In order to service the bulbs or move them to the new tail light, you just have to twist their sockets counterclockwise. Connect the main harness to the new assembly and insert it into the body of the car. You will find guiding pins behind it, to help you with that. In the end, secure everything with the four screws and that’s it. These are the steps you have to follow, if you wish to remove and replace the tail light assembly on your Toyota Tacoma, the model made between the years 2001 and 2004.
