DIY, change the broken interior door handle on your Honda CR-V, the model produced between the years 2002 and 2004. The replacement procedure is simple and it won’t take you more than 15 minutes. You will need a small flat blade screwdriver and a Phillips screwdriver. We will show you in this tutorial the replacement on the driver’s side of the car. The process is the same on the passenger’s side, the only difference is the door lock button missing.
So, open the door on the driver’s side and, using a flat blade screwdriver, pry out slowly the small cover behind the door handle, as you can see in the image below.
After you remove that cover, you will notice two Phillips screws, that actually secure the handle on the door panel (see picture below). Remove them with an appropriate screwdriver and detach the handle.
Now, this one on the driver’s side has two cables attached to it, as you can see next. One of them is the cable that powers the door lock button and you can remove it if you disconnect its plug and the other one is the door lock rod. This last one has a securing tab that can be pulled aside with the tip of the flat blade screwdriver. Only after you get rid of these cables you’ll be able to remove the old door handle completely.
At this point, you might need to move the door lock button to the new handle and you can do it by removing its Phillips screws. After you make the required replacements, install the new handle into the door panel, reconnect its cables and secure it with the screws. This is all you need to do, if you wish to remove and replace the inside door handle on the driver’s side of your Honda CR-V, the model made between 2002 and 2004.
