Do it yourself, change the ignition coils on your Lincoln Town Car, the model equipped with the 4.6L engine. This repair will require a new ignition coil from your auto parts store and a 7 mm socket, with a ratchet and extension. The repair process might take you more than half an hour, if you need to change all the coils.
First of all, you should disconnect the negative cable of your battery. You might need an 8 mm wrench to do it. After that, go above the engine and locate the ignition coils. There are four on each side of the engine, as you can see in the picture below.
In order to remove a coil, you have to undo the 7 mm bolt that secures it and unplug the electrical harness that powers it (see image below). After you do these two things, you can just pull out the old ignition coil and replace it with a new one.
At the end, you have to make sure you install the replacements correctly, secure them with the bolts and reconnect them to their harnesses. Plug back the negative cable on the battery and you should be ready to go. This is all you have to do in order to remove and replace the ignition coils on your Lincoln Town Car, the model equipped with the 4.6L engine.
