DIY, change the ignition coils on your Honda Civic 1.7L made in the years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005. For this repair you will need new ignition coils from your local auto parts shop, a flat blade screwdriver and a 10 mm socket wrench. The repair process will not take you more than 15 minutes, because it is very simple.
First of all, open the hood and go to the engine, where, using the flat blade screwdriver, you will have to remove a plastic cover (see next image). There are two screw-like safety pins (marked with blue color) that you will have to rotate counterclockwise in order to be able to detach the cover. After you do it, you will gain full access to the ignition coils, marked below with red arrows.
Now, using the 10 mm socket wrench, unscrew the four bolts that secure the coils. You can also use a simple 10 mm wrench to do this task. After you remove the screws, lift up the coils and disconnect their harnesses. You can do it by pressing their safety tabs with your fingers, as shown below.
At this point, you can install the replacements. Insert the new coils back into the holes and before securing them, connect the harnesses. Tighten the screws and then place the plastic cover above the engine and you are done. These are the steps you have to follow in order to change the ignition coils on Honda Civic 1.7L 2001-2005.
