Do it yourself, change the ignition coils on your Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7L manufactured in the year 2008. For this repair you will need new ignition coils from your local hardware store, a flat headed screwdriver, a 10 mm socket wrench and some dielectric grease. The repair process is not very difficult but it might take you about 45 minutes.
Open the hood of your car and go to the engine. There are four ignition coils on each side of the engine and you will have to follow the exact same procedure for each one. First of all, disconnect the harness of the coil by pressing the little plastic tab of the connector. Then, remove the two 10 mm bolts (as shown below) using the socket wrench. Some of the screws will require a short wrench, some others ratchets and extensions.
Take notice that the bolts have small retainers on them, so they will not come all the way out. Remove all the coils on the driver’s side and then move to the passenger’s. Here, the coils are covered by the air intake hose. You will have to detach it and the air box holding the air filter, to get your repair done. The air box has four metal clips that secure it. Remove them, loosen the metal collar/clamp on the air intake hose, near the engine and the disconnect the hose show in the image below.
Now, you will be able to remove and replace the other four ignition coils on the car. Install the replacements, using before that a little bit of dielectric grease placed just inside the two connectors of the spark plugs, on each coil. Install everything back carefully and you are done. These are the steps you need to follow if you wish to change the ignition coils on your Dodge Ram 1500 Hemi 5.7L manufactured in the year 2008.
