Do it yourself, change the hood support struts on your Volvo XC90, the model made between the years 2003 and 2013. The replacement process for these parts is very, very simple and it will require only a flat blade screwdriver. We recommend you though, to use the help of another person when you remove the struts, to support the hood of the car. This repair will not take you more than 10 minutes. First, open the hood and secure it with a piece of wood or the help of a second person. With the tip of a flat blade screwdriver, pry out the metal safety tabs at the extremities of the first support strut you wish to replace (see picture below). Once you do it, pull out the strut, but be careful because the hood will fall down if not sustained. Grab the replacement part and push its top extremity into the metal knob on the edge of the hood, as seen in the image below. Do the same with the bottom extremity, insert it into the metal knob on the body of the car and that’s it. At this point you can replace the strut on the other side, if needed and finish the repair. This is all you need to do, if you wish to remove and replace the hood support struts on your Volvo XC90, the model manufactured between the years 2003 and 2013.
