Do it yourself, remove and replace the hood lift support struts on your Ford Expedition, the model produced between the years 1997 and 2002. This is a very simple replacement that will require a flat blade screwdriver, new hood struts from your auto parts shop and about 15 minutes of your time.
First of all, open the hood of your car and go to that strut that you wish to remove and replace. You will have to pry out a small metal clip, that secures the strut, using a small flat blade screwdriver, as you can see in the picture below.
After you get that clip out of the way, you can pull that part of the strut out and you can move to the one below. Pry it out and remove the old strut completely. You don’t have to worry about sustaining the hood, if the other strut is in good condition. Otherwise, make sure the hood stays open and lifted up. In order to install the new strut, you just have to secure it at the bottom, first, into its clip and then, just push it in at the top. Check the functionality of the hood and if everything is okay, you are ready to go. These are the steps you need to follow, in order to remove and replace the hood struts on your Ford Explorer, made between the years 1997 and 2002.
