Do it yourself, change the headlight assembly on your Chevy Malibu, the model manufactured between the years 1997 and 2003. This is a replacement that can be done without tools, in less than 10 minutes, in the back of your garage. In some cases, a flat blade screwdriver might be required, to help you out.
In the beginning, you have to open and secure the hood of your car. In order to detach the headlight assembly from its place, you will have to pull up the two metal tabs shown in the image below. They secure the assembly and can be lifted by hand. If you find it difficult, you can use a flat blade screwdriver or some other tool.
After you work on these tabs, you will be able to pull out the headlight. Behind it, you will come across three electrical harnesses powering the light bulbs. You can release the bulbs by twisting their sockets counterclockwise.
Service the bulbs if needed and then install a new headlight assembly. Insert the bulbs into their holes, then the headlight into the body of the car and in the end, secure it with the tabs. This is what you have to do, if you plan to remove and replace the headlight assembly on your Chevy Malibu, the model made between the years 1997 and 2003.
