Do it yourself, change the air filter on your GMC Sierra, the model produced in 1996. This replacement is very, very simple. Anyone can do it in a couple of minutes. You will only require a new air filter from your local hardware store.
Of course, first of all, open the hood and locate the air box, which is the air filter’s compartment. This is a black plastic box that you will find behind the headlight and behind the battery on the left side of the engine (the passenger’s side). You just have to remove two metal hooks that hold the lid of this box and you will get access to the filter, as shown in the next image.
After you lift up and pull out the lid, maneuver the air filter until you release it from its location. It should come out without much effort, by lifting it up from the side near the battery, as you can see below.
Replace the old filter and install the replacement one. Buy and use compatible filters only. After you make sure the new filter is properly installed, place the lid of the air box back on top of it, securing it with the two hooks and you are done. This is all you have to do, if you wish to change by yourself the air filter on GMC Sierra, made in the year 1996.
